How to Book

You must bring the same ID you used when booking. Acceptable documents:

  • Current valid passport (any nationality)
  • Biometric residence permit (BRP)
  • Travel document issued by the Home Office
  • Immigration status document with photo

Important: Expired documents are NOT accepted. Driving licences are NOT accepted.

Exemptions

You do not need to take the test if you are:

  • Under 18 years old
  • 65 years old or over
  • Have a long-term physical or mental condition that severely restricts your ability to prepare for or take the test

If you have a disability, you can apply for special arrangements such as extra time or a reader.

Test Day Checklist

What to Expect on Test Day

Arrive early. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before your test time. Late arrivals may not be admitted.

ID check. Staff will check your photo ID against your booking. You will have your photograph taken at the centre.

No personal items. You cannot take your phone, bag, notes, or any electronic devices into the test room. Lockers may be provided.

The test. You will be seated at a computer. The 24 multiple-choice questions will appear on screen. You can navigate between questions and change your answers within the 45-minute time limit.

Results. You will receive your result immediately. A "pass" notification letter is sent to you and to the Home Office, where it stays on record for your visa application.

Retake Policy

If you do not pass, you can rebook and retake the test as many times as needed. Each attempt costs £50. There is no waiting period between attempts — you can book a new test immediately.
