Global Talent Visa Opens Design Sector Endorsement Route from Today

07 Apr 2026

A new endorsement route on the Global Talent visa opens today for professionals working in the design sector. From 7 April 2026, design industry applicants can seek endorsement through a dedicated pathway that recognises exceptional talent or exceptional promise in design — previously only arts and culture, digital technology, and science and engineering had dedicated endorsing body arrangements covering this field.

The Global Talent visa is relevant to anyone on a Skilled Worker visa who may be considering a route switch, particularly given the government's earned settlement proposals. Under the current rules, Global Talent visa holders can apply for ILR after three years if endorsed at the "exceptional talent" level, or after five years if endorsed at "exceptional promise" level. The standard Skilled Worker route currently qualifies for ILR after five years, though the government's consultation proposes extending the default to ten years for most economic migrants. Switching to Global Talent — if you qualify — would give you a shorter and more predictable path to settlement that sits outside the earned settlement framework.

The route is genuinely competitive: endorsement requires demonstrating outstanding achievement or future potential at the international level in your field. For the design sector specifically, applications are assessed based on international recognition, industry awards, original contributions, and similar evidence of distinction. It is not a straightforward alternative for most Skilled Worker applicants, but for those working in design at a senior or recognised level, it is worth knowing the door is now open. Applicants should check the relevant endorsing body's criteria before applying, and take legal advice if needed.
