Home Office Adds US and Jamaica Visa Applications to Automated Biometric Checks
23 Jun 2026
If you are applying for a UK visa from the United States or Jamaica, the Home Office will now run automated biometric checks on your application. This change took effect on 22 June 2026, when the Home Office updated its biometric data-sharing guidance to version 15.0.
The checks happen automatically when your application is registered. You do not need to do anything differently or submit any additional information. According to the guidance, "automated checks will usually have results available within 24 hours and in many cases, responses may be received in minutes."
This scheme already covers other application types. In-country settlement applications have been included since 27 June 2023. Nationality applications have been included since 3 June 2024. The addition of visa applications made in the US and Jamaica is the latest expansion of the programme.
The process runs in the background and does not change what documents you need to submit or how you apply. If you are applying for settlement or citizenship from within the UK, these checks have applied to your application type for some time already.
