Home Office excludes 60000 carer visa holders from immediate cancellation

29 Jun 2026

If you hold a Health and Care Worker visa and your sponsor's licence has been revoked, this update is directly relevant to you.

The Home Office published its response to an immigration overstayers inspection on 25 June 2026. It confirmed that around 60,000 carer visa holders are currently within the cancellations queue but are being excluded from cancellation action at this time. The response states: "The Home Office is working in partnership with the Department for Health & Social Care and the Care Sector to find alternative roles for this group."

This means that while the Home Office is working through other visa cancellation cases at around 5,000 per week, care workers in this group have been held back. The government is coordinating with the care sector to find alternative employment before any enforcement action is taken against this group.

This exclusion is not permanent. No end date has been given. If your sponsor's licence has been revoked, contact your employer or a new licensed sponsor in the care sector about alternative roles as soon as possible. Do not wait for a formal notice before acting.
