Law Centre NI Updates eVisa Guide for Account Access Problems

28 Jul 2026

If you rely on your UKVI account to prove your immigration status, whether you are on a BNO visa, a Skilled Worker visa, or waiting to apply for ILR, this update matters. Law Centre NI updated its eVisa guide on 27 July 2026, adding new sections on what to do if you cannot access your account.

The guide now covers a situation called "I can't access my UKVI account, or someone else controls it." It tells you to use the Home Office account recovery service if you are locked out, or if someone else set up the account for you and you no longer have control of it. This matters if you need to show your eVisa status to an employer, a landlord, or at the UK border and cannot log in.

A new section also deals with domestic abuse. It states that if you cannot get into your UKVI account, or your children's account, because a current or former partner created or controls it, help is available. The guide is clear on safety: "You should not contact an abuser to recover your account details if you feel that it is unsafe to do so." Instead, you can call the UKVI Resolution Centre on 0300 790 6268, or Law Centre NI on 028 9024 4401, for confidential support.

If you are struggling to access your eVisa account for any reason, do not ignore it. You need working access to prove your right to work, rent, or travel. Use the official GOV.UK account recovery and status-check tools first, and if your case involves an abusive partner, contact the Resolution Centre or Law Centre NI rather than trying to get the details from that person yourself.
