If you need to prove your English language ability for a UK visa, settlement, or citizenship application, this affects you. UKVI updated the approved Secure English Language Test (SELT) centre lists, both inside and outside the UK, on 21 September 2026. The published change note reads "Updated the list of approved test centres in and outside the UK."
A SELT from an approved centre is required across a wide range of routes, including Skilled Worker, Health and Care Worker, Scale-up Worker, Partner and Parent family visas, settlement (ILR), and citizenship applications. Home Office decision makers will only accept results from centres on the current approved list, so a test taken at a centre that's since been removed won't count.
Before you book a test, check the approved centre list for your country or city rather than relying on a booking you made or researched a while ago. If you already have a test booked, it's worth confirming the centre is still on the list so you're not caught out close to a visa deadline.
