Sponsor guidance updated for October worker route changes

09 Oct 2026

If you're on a Skilled Worker visa, or your employer sponsors you, the Home Office has updated its guidance for sponsors. The guidance is called "Workers and temporary workers: guidance for sponsors part 2: sponsor a worker". GOV.UK shows it was updated on 8 October 2026.

The update note says the guidance "has been updated to reflect changes to the Immigration Rules coming into force on 8 and 29 October 2026 and changes to the Right to Work Scheme that came into force on 1 October 2026." So some changes are already in force, and others start on 29 October 2026.

The update note does not list the individual changes. It does not give fees, thresholds or deadlines. We have not summarised any specific rule change here, because the source we checked does not spell them out.

What should you do? If you are a sponsored worker, ask your employer whether the updated guidance changes anything for your role or your next application. If you sponsor workers, read the full guidance on GOV.UK. It sets out how the changes apply to you.
