Sponsor licence suspensions surge, what Skilled Worker visa holders should know

If you're on a Skilled Worker visa, your right to stay in the UK depends on your employer keeping its sponsor licence. New reporting from Free Movement shows Home Office enforcement against sponsors has surged, and it's worth understanding what that means for you.
More than 3,000 Skilled Worker sponsor licences were revoked in 2025, around nine times the number revoked in 2023. Free Movement describes sponsor licence enforcement as "operating at unprecedented levels." When a licence is suspended rather than revoked outright, the Home Office normally gives the sponsor "a limited period in which to respond to the allegations in a suspension letter, typically 20 working days."
This matters to you because if your employer's licence is suspended or revoked, your permission to work for them, and potentially your visa itself, can be put at risk. A suspension does not automatically end your visa, but it signals that your sponsor is under active Home Office scrutiny and may lose the right to sponsor workers.
There is no action you personally need to take by a specific deadline right now. But if you have any reason to believe your employer's sponsor licence is under review, ask your HR or immigration team directly, and keep your own visa documents, payslips, and correspondence in order in case you need to move quickly. If your sponsor does lose its licence, you would typically be given a period to find a new sponsor or leave the UK, so acting early on any warning signs matters.
