Sponsored workers now get eVisa only when granted entry clearance from 20 May

23 May 2026

If you are a sponsored worker arriving in the UK, this change affects how your immigration permission is shown.

From 20 May 2026, most sponsored workers granted entry clearance receive an eVisa only. The Home Office updated its sponsor guidance on 20 May 2026 to state that "most workers granted permission from 20 May 2026 will now receive an eVisa only." This replaces the previous approach of placing a vignette sticker in the worker's passport. The guidance update covers Skilled Worker, Health and Care Worker, Scale-up Worker, and other sponsored routes.

Your eVisa is a digital record of your immigration status. You access it through your UKVI account online. When an employer, landlord, or other service needs to check your right to work or right to rent, you share a time-limited code generated from your UKVI account.

If you arrived in the UK from 20 May 2026 on a sponsored visa, log in to your UKVI account to confirm your eVisa is showing correctly. If your employer needs proof of your right to work, direct them to the online checking service using your share code. If you have not yet set up your UKVI account, do this before you travel or as soon as you arrive.
