UK Immigration Fees Rise Today - New Rates for ILR, Naturalisation and Extensions
08 Apr 2026
If you are applying for a visa extension, settlement, or British citizenship from today, you are paying more than you would have yesterday. The Home Office's updated fee schedule came into force on 8 April 2026, raising most immigration and nationality application fees by around 6 to 7 per cent.
Here are the new rates most relevant to people working towards ILR or citizenship:
- Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR/settlement): £3,226 per person (up from £3,029, +£197)
- Naturalisation as a British citizen: £1,709 (up from £1,605, +£104)
- Adult British citizenship registration: £1,540
- Skilled Worker extension in the UK, up to 3 years: £943 (up from £885, +£58)
- Skilled Worker extension in the UK, over 3 years: £1,865 (up from £1,751, +£114)
- Leave to Remain extension (other routes): £1,407
One fee has gone down: registering a child as a British citizen now costs £1,000, reduced from £1,214. This applies to child citizenship registration applications submitted from today.
These fees apply to all routes, including BNO holders. If you are on the BNO route and planning your path ahead, the full cost from ILR to naturalisation is now at least £4,935 per person in application fees alone — not counting the Immigration Health Surcharge, which is paid separately at the extension stage. For a couple applying for ILR together, that is £6,452 before any other costs.
The fee is set at the date of application. If you applied before today and are awaiting a decision, your application was charged at the previous rate. If you are refused and need to reapply, the new fees apply.
