UKVI clarifies carrier checks for passengers using eVisas
28 Oct 2026
If you travel to the UK with an eVisa, this update to the guidance for airlines and other carriers may affect your journey. UKVI updated its "Document checks and charges for carriers" page on 26 October 2026. The update log says it "clarified what further checks carriers need to conduct when '0A' responses are received."
The guidance is written for carriers, not passengers. It says a 0A (board) response "may be accepted as satisfactory evidence of a passenger's permission to travel to the UK, provided that the document used for travel is the document against which the 0A response was generated." In plain terms, the document you show at check-in should match the one used to get the boarding response.
The guidance also says carriers must still check that your travel document is "genuine, valid, and in the possession of the rightful holder". If you only hold a physical document as proof of your visa, the carrier may get a 0Z or 0B (check) message from the Home Office instead.
The guidance does not set out steps for passengers. If you have questions about how your eVisa will be checked, ask your carrier before you travel. You can read the full carrier guide through the sources below.
